Often known as a symbol of victory and honor, these were presented during the Roman and Greek era to honor soldiers, leaders, champions and heroes.
Among Romans and Greeks, lilies, honeysuckle, violets and roses were some favorite flowers, while others like tulips and marigold gained popularity due to their color and shape. Often referred to as a luxury symbol, flowers have been in use by powerful and wealthy people for religious rituals. The representation of roses, as known today, for the expression of love has been used by the Romans as well. Their scent was used to create an overwhelmed environment during the meals, while these were tossed along with their petals on the floor during banquets.
Historical Significance among Chinese
The Chinese have been found to make use of flower arrangements during the Han Dynasty, around the era of 207 to 220 BC, when they were utilized for religious education and medicinal purposes. It has been discovered from paintings depicting the use of flower arrangements that cut flowers were usually placed on tables, while the paintings were commonly found on silk fabric, scrolls and vases.
